With the Law of Guidelines and Bases of the Education (LDB) 9694/96, the professional-technical teaching was released from secondary school. In 1998, the UFRPE imposed, therefore, the secondary school in the Institution, the Agricultural College Dom Agostinho Ikas (Codai), an organization in the municipality of São Lourenço da Mata (PE). The Codai has offered professional education. In response to a demand of society, the Ministry of Education (MEC) made a suggestion and discussed with teachers a proposal for the Professional Education Integrated to Secondary School. In 2004, this proposal has become the Decree 5154/2004, which led most of the federative units to offer the Professional Education Integrated with Secondary School.
The Secondary School has as objective the consolidation and deepening of knowledge acquired in Elementary School, enabling the continuation of studies, in addition to offering a basic preparation for the labor market and citizenship. It is also primary objective of this phase of studies to guarantee the apprehension of scientific-technological basis of production processes, linking theory with practice.
The Secondary School course of high school is divided into three series of annual single shift (morning or afternoon).
The entrance of the Secondary School (Superior High School) is given once a year, through selection test with enrollment in November / December, to students that are concluding the last year of Elementary School (High School) and up to the age of 18 years-old.
AGRICULTURAL COLLEGE DOM AGOSTINHO IKAS - CODAI
The Agricultural College Dom Agostinho Ikas is a national supplementary organization of Federal Rural University of Pernambuco, dedicated to education professionals and Secondary School level. Located in the city of São Lourenço da Mata, the Codai offers two regular courses: the Secondary School (Superior High School) and the Technical Education in Agriculture. New courses have been approved: technical expertise in post-technical education in sugar-cane and technical course in food (post-secondary school).
The history of Codai is directly linked to the origins of the University. Originated in 1936, with the founding of the Agricultural Learning of Pacas, in Vitória de Santo Antão, it was transferred two years later to the Engenho de São Bento (“Machinery of St. Benedict”), which had operated the School of Agronomy of Pernambuco, the initial core UFRPE. Under the name of Agro-Technical School of São Lourenço da Mata, it was incorporated to the University in 1957 and was renamed again ten years later, in honor of a former Benedictine monk who had taught in school, to draw up Agricultural College Dom Agostinho Ikas.
Today CODA has over 40 teachers and 500 students, distributed in the three courses. It offers and uses the structure of the experimental stations of sugar cane and small animals of Carpina, in addition to the headquarters campus of Two Brothers and Experimental Bases the IPA for the conduct of practical classes.

Technical Course in Agriculture
The technical course in Agriculture, Post Secondary School modality, is designed for students who have completed or are in the last year of of Secondary School. It has been offered at the Agricultural College Dom Agostinho Ikas since 1986.
With duration of four semesters, and more 400 hours of supervised training, the course happens in a single shift (morning or afternoon).
The admission of new students happens twice a year by test of selection, with enrollment in May / July and November / December.
Course in Business Administration and Marketing
The Course of Business Administration and Marketing is structured in two semesters with 500 hours / classes each. According to the planning, the course occurs in one turn in the morning or afternoon, with the the opportunity of undertaking compulsory training stage, with 160 hours, which can be started from the conclusion of the second period.
Each period of the course is divided into two modules. The first period includes the Module 1 - Planning Organization (with the disciplines Fundamentals of Management, Research and Economic Study of Vocation and Marketing, Strategic Planning Model of Organizations, Communication Strategies, Media and Marketing Basic Informatics) and Module II -- Planning and Operationalization of cases in the Administrative Management in Firm (with the disciplines of Cycles of Human Resources Planning; Cycles of Tax Planning, Accounting and Finance, Cycles of Material Resources, Property and Insurance Planning and Planning of Occupational Health, Environmental and Safety at Work).
The second period covers Modules III - Planning of Processes and Operationalization of Marketing Management (with the disciplines Fundamentals of Marketing, Strategic Planning of Mix-Marketing; Fundamentals of Interpersonal Relations and Consumer Behavior and Stages of Development of Actions in Marketing) and IV - Control and Evaluation of Cycles of Business Management (with the disciplines of Management and Development of Administrative Activities, Production, Services and Information in the Company; Development of Management Activities in Human Resources, Accounting, Finances, Taxation, Material, Property and Insurance, and Development of Activities of Control and Analysis of Results of Administrative Management and Marketing Management).
Profile of technicians in Business Administration and Marketing egress of the CODAI’s course
The profile of egress of the course is in accordance with the general professional skills of a technician in the area of Management, established in Resolution number 04/99 of the Ministry of Education. According to the document, the responsibilities are:
Identifying and interpreting the guidelines of strategic planning, tactical planning and master plan for the Business Management;
Identifying the budget structures and corporate of the organizations, and relating them to specific processes of Management;
To interpreting results of market, economic, technological research, using them in the Management process;
Using the tools of planning, and execute as well, to control and evaluate the procedures of the cycles:
Of Personnel;
Of material resources;
Taxes;
Financial;
Accounting;
Of property;
Of insurance;
Of production;
Of the Information systems;
Of the marketing mix
Identifying the structures and formulating planning strategies of marketing, storage and physical distribution of products;
Identifying and interpreting the law that governs the cycles of Business and Marketing Management;
Characterizing the languages of the different media and their interrelationships;
Using the technology available in the product research and in the development of activities in the marketing area;
Applying principles, strategies and tools of management at standalone labour or in business organizations
Identifying the characteristics and needs of the client, using technical vocabulary, specific, in communication with the several professionals.
CODAI - The Technical Course in Business Administration and Marketing, as well as other courses of CODAI, has its activities in the building with 5.532m2 of constructed area, located in the center of the municipality of São Lourenço da Mata, which has in it’s facilities laboratories , library (that has collection of books and video tapes), video room, auditorium, sports courts and teaching agriculture. It also counts with an area of 37.4 hectares in the municipality of Tiúma, focused on activities in the field. Many practical lessons are developed in the Experimental Station of the University in the city of Carpina and other public and private properties, which are made technical visits.

CAMPUS SENATOR ERMÍRIO JOSÉ DE MORAES - Has 34.70 hectares, and it is located in Tiúma, municipality of São Lourenço da Mata-PE. The campus has the following facilities: weir and pump house, reservoir with capacity of 300.000L; aviary for birds of cutting at number of 5000; fold to 20 goats; agro-industry laboratory with three units (processing of plants, meat, milk and derivatives), two classrooms; unit of support / deposit; productive unit of agriculture (orchard, banana, passion fruit, etc.), domestic accommodation for 24 students. In infrastructure, there is regulation of roads, lighting and water supply in the field, building a point of vigilance.
